A Sprinkle of Santorini's Beauty

Hello all,

Today was a very early day for everyone. In fact, it was the earliest day of the trip yet! We all woke up around 4AM, some of us even earlier. This was to catch our 7AM flight from Milan, Italy to Athens, Greece. Athens wouldn’t be our final stop of the day however, and we actually caught a second flight today from Athens to Santorini, Greece.

Griffin caught up on his sleep during the first leg to Athens. Gage is a lovely pillow!

Lunch in the Athens airport

For the uninitiated, off the coast of Greece are

6,000 islands. Santorini is one of those small islands. When we arrived in Athens, we had a lot of time to kill even though we actually needed to grab our bags from baggage claim, re-check them and then go through security again. After killing our extra time at the Athens airport we then boarded our next and last flight of the day. This wasn’t a traditional boarding method though. We were actually boarded onto a shuttle bus that brought us out to our plane. Which itself wasn’t even a jet, but a large turboprop.

Waiting for the bus to bring us to the propeller plane

During the plane ride, Connor and Kayla listened to music together and Connor had the map open on his phone so they could look out the window and name all the islands they saw on their way to Santorini from mainland Greece. The rest of the crew was mostly watching shows/reading books. (Parent note: not true! There was much craning of necks to look out the window, but we were not as prepared as Connir so were not naming islands. Just enjoying the view on this 45 minute flight .). When we landed in Santorini, we waited 45 minutes for the bust to come. During that time Kayla managed to drop one of Connor’s AirPods into a dry storm drain. Luckily, she was able to retrieve it using a piece of gum attached to a stick.

the Nanas have gotten very good at waiting!

Once the bus arrived, 45 minutes after we got to the stop, we boarded and rode it the wrong direction until it turned around and eventually brought us to where we needed to get off. We walked the last 10 minutes to our new Santorini Airbnb, which very excitingly has a small but functional Jacuzzi.

(Not our Airbnb, but a house next door)

After our long journey we were all starving. As such we headed out to find some delicious Greek cuisine. We stumbled into a gyro, kebab, salad, and burger joint. From which we all had kebab gyros from.

Half the seating at this table was swings (hence the ropes on the right side)

When everyone was done eating we broke into 2 groups. The Nanas, Dad, Jen, and Gage all went back to the Airbnb. The rest of us went to see sunset on the other side of the island. And it was FANTASTIC!

View of Santorini Caldera. Central island is a Volcano!

After this, we all went back to join the others at the Airbnb. On the way back to the Airbnb from the sunset we saw Jen, and Dad who were on their way to check it out for themselves, as well as hit the grocery store on the way back.

The rest of us called it a night with the Nanas having some wine as well as some much needed Jacuzzi time. Connor, Griffin, and Kayla also went and had some jacuzzi time before getting ready for and heading to bed.

All in all, it was a lovely day for all!

Tune in tomorrow for more!
