A Valentine’s Day to Remember!! (2/14/24)

Happy Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day this year kicked off to an excellent start with everyone making their own delicious breakfasts. Mom’s morning had started much earlier than everyone else as she had gotten up and gone to see the sunrise. After going out she returned to the apartment and jumped in the pool! (Parent note: at 63 degrees, it was a tiny bit warmer than earlier in the week, but still quite chilly!)

After breakfast was done, we set out towards Potato Beach, with plans to explore the caves and tunnels along the various beaches on the way, showing Griffin what he missed out on the day he missed because he wasn’t feeling great. We walked through waterlogged arches, which we wouldn’t have been able to go through if it hadn’t been low tide, and walked on some rocks in the water to get from beach to beach. While walking on the rocks in the water, we saw a bunch of hermit crabs, and a few of them were quite large!

After walking down and back on the coast we headed back to the apartment for lunch. I made myself a perfect Tosta Mista(grilled ham and cheese), and Connor and Griffin each made Tosta Mista’s that were no where near as perfect.

After lunch, we had a quiet hour where everyone just did their own thing, then Mom and Dad went to the store to pick up the remaining items for our dinner. Connor and Kayla would not be joining us for dinner tonight as they had plans to go out for their own Valentine’s Day dinner date. While they were getting ready for that, the rest of us (Mom, Dad, Griffin, and I), headed out to the stairs that led you down to the water to see it at high tide. (Parent note: this was at Ponta de Piedade, which we had seen our first full day in town. That was at mid-tide, and we agreed to come back at high tide to see the difference.). We were not let down as the waves were huge and the water rose up to the stairwell.

By the time we returned to the apartment Connor and Kayla had left for their date. Dad grilled the pork chops while Griffin cooked the onions, and Mom made whatever she had and a salad, while I set the table. (Parent note: I had made a delicious mix of garbanzo beans and roasted vegetables.). We ate our pork chops and agreed that it was way more delicious than whatever Connor and Kayla were having, not to mention cheaper. (Parent note: there was also more sangria. Because, well, why not?!?). We cleaned up after dinner and had a mini dance party with lots of Mamma Mia.
