Always Sunny Malaga (except when it rains) (02/26/2024)

Morning folks. Today was an exciting but a slow start to the day. Sunny Malaga was in fact NOT sunny this morning but was raining until about 11:00 am (Spain time). We started the morning with people relaxing and sleeping in (at least I think they did because the author of today's blog (Kayla Daniel) did). (Parent note: surprise! Some of us did not. I ran down to take a peek at the cathedral, which is free between 8:30 and 9 every morning. It is huge - not at massive as the one in Seville, but takes up a whole city block and is truly impressive. )

However, some exciting news for today was that we (specifically Matt and Jen) finished booking all of our travel and housing for the remainder of our trip. WOOHOO! (hopefully I spelled that correctly). We also checked how we are doing on the budget and we are right on the money (definitely more money for chocolate croissants though).

After a delicious breakfast, Kayla and Connor went on a walk around the city and checked out the market again. Jen and Matt walked to the train station to figure out if we needed to print our tickets (which resulted in us learning that we in fact do not need to print out our tickets). (Parent note: this is for our 6 hour trip to Barcelona tomorrow. While some may view it as a wasted trip, I am a huge fan of any walking expedition with a purpose - even in a drizzle.). Gage and Griffin were still both a little under the weather at the start of the day so they decided to continue relaxing in bed after breakfast until lunch time (for which we decided we were going to eat out; cause guess what, we are doing amazing at staying under budget).

However, it took us over an hour to figure out where we wanted to eat for lunch. The main culprit was that we have a few picky eaters and a whole lot of people who struggle to make decisions. Which resulted in everyone walking around and looking for places to eat until we all just decided to eat at Ciao again, our favorite place (also the only one we've tried so far in Malaga...).

While we did end up eating at the same place, we decided to mix it up in terms of what we ordered. The best part was how we ordered a pitcher of sangria which was delicious.

We also got to see a rare sight (HAPPY GAGE)! He enjoyed his pizza and was ready for more.

After lunch, we decided to split up and go for a walk. Gage, Jen, and Matt went for a walk somewhere (I have no idea where but you might find out later in a parent note). (Parent note: one of us had a huge glass of wine at lunch - which started at around 3 and went for about an hour - so was not fully focused on the walk we took. I'm sure it was lovely.) Kayla, Connor, and Griffin went for a walk about the city and even found a store where they bought dollar wine (A WHOLE LITER FOR $1). Upon returning to the apartment it was Siesta time. (Parent note: yep!)

Then, at around 6:00pm (Spain time) Kayla, Connor, Jen, and Matt all left to watch the sunset, but to two different spots. Kayla and Connor went to the beach and Jen and Matt went to the super scary and incredibly dangerous lookout at the top of the mountain. Both were beautiful and resulted in some amazing photos.

During this time, Griffin decided to go for a super long run and workout (I am sure we will see those results soon).

After watching the sunset, Kayla and Connor relaxed on the beach while drinking some (dollar) wine. Jen and Matt then picked up Griffin for some late night gelato (which I am sure was good but they were all sad because Kayla was not there).

After the walk and gelato, we came back and ate dinner. Dinner was some delicious stir fry, spaghetti, and squid ink paella, which started to dye everything that touched it black (pic below). Connor (being a super graceful eater as always) managed to get the black ink all over the kitchen and on various dishes. However, he did managed to keep his clothes ink free, which was impressive.

As I am writing this, everyone is done with dinner and relaxing, except for Griffin., who is still currently eating dinner. It's taken him an hour and a half and he is still not done (sadly, not unusual).

Until next time.
