Greetings folks,
Like usual, Jen was the first one up this morning of our crew and was able to watch a beautiful sunrise and see our neighbor ride his donkey to work one more time.
However, most of us started this morning around 8 ish and we packed to leave for Athens, Greece. Most of us had eggs this morning for breakfast even though Gage had found what looked to be a “live fetus” in his eggs which grossed him out a bit but his reaction made Kayla chuckle. Kayla then tried to trick him while she took a turn cooking the eggs (cause Gage was recovering) by saying she heard some quacking coming from the pan but don’t worry cause Nana came to the rescue and assured Gage that his breakfast was not alive and was very very cooked.
We then got all our bags together in a pile because we had to be out of our Airbnb at 11, but the hostess was nice enough to let us leave our bags in the place until it’s time to load everything onto the ferry, and go back to Athens Greece. Luckily, we had a little extra time this morning. We were able to run over to the 24/7 bakery for some delicious breakfast.
After walking around for a bit and exploring our last few moments in Santorini, we headed to grab our bags form our Airbnb and say goodbye to the amazing hot tub.
We then lugged our bags up the obnoxiously steep hill right next to our Airbnb and then decided to reward ourselves with one last Gyro (and chow mien if you are Griffin). We laughed for a bit about Griffin's incredible (not really) chopstick skills.
We then had some delicious food and walked to the bus stop to get ready for our departure to Athens. We then rode the bus to the ferry port around 1:00 PM (Greece Time). We then had to raise Kayla's blood pressure one last time for this trip by taking this horrible road down to the port on this extra large bus as we passed other extra large trucks.
The road to the ferry basically is just steep switchbacks down the side of a cliff!
To recover from this dreadful road we decided to finish our one and only mojito as a group. (Parent note: it had been cold when it was packed at 11 am, and was still cool enough to drink. And certainly wasn't getting any colder sitting in my bag!)
We then took a very very very long ferry ride (about 6 hours). On the ride we made a few stops and we were able to get several episodes of Suits in (it’s a lawyer show about a smart guy and everyone but Connor recommends). Also, we got to see the Nanas sharing a sandwich and enjoying Suits while using matching neck pillows.
This ferry has "airplane seating" and you are supposed to stay in your seat the whole time good experience for our upcoming flights home!
Finally, after everyone used the bathroom (because there will only be one in our Airbnb tonight) we headed off the Ferry and onto the Metro.
On the Athens Metro
We then walked a short distance to our last Airbnb and settled in for the night (enjoying the bottle of prosecco we had saved for this very occasion). Thank you so much fellow readers and stay tuned for the last couple of days as this glorious adventure comes to an end.
Thank you Matt and Jen for making this amazing trip possible and this is Kayla signing off for the last time,
Kayla Daniel
