Hello all,
Today was yet another travel day for all of us, and like the last travel day we were once again adding newcomers to our trip. However, this time we would also be waving goodbye to one of our traveling companions who joined us for Rome. Bye MacClain, it was very fun having you along! Thankfully, we had two new additions to our trip who together take up about the same space as MacClain did. So Jen got up early to meet the newcomers: The Nanas at the airport and brought MacClain with her to the airport for his flight 4 hours later.
After picking up the Nanas, Jen with the Nanas in tow met up with the rest of us at the train station in Rome to catch our train to Bonassola, Italy. Once we all met up, we boarded the train we were off to Bonassola.
We switched trains in La Spezia, Italy before getting on the train to our final destination of Bonassola, Italy. (Parent note: to give the nanas the full experience, our train from Rome was delayed by about 15 minutes, and my helpful train app alerted me that we would miss our connection in La Spezia, and would have to wait an hour for the next train. But being experienced travelers, we know the smaller connecting trains sometimes wait for the larger trains when they are delayed. And my app helpfully told me we needed to go from platform 2 to platform 1. So we grabbed our bags, rushed off the train, down the stairs, under the tracks, and back up the stairs to platform 1. And a train was waiting there! But we asked a friendly person to ensure it was the right train, and it was not. He was able to look up on his much better train app and showed us our train was on platform 3 - directly across from the train we had just gotten off. So we rushed back down the stairs, under the tracks, back up the stairs, and thankfully our train was still there and just about the pull away. So we charged on and got settled just in time to wipe the sweat out of our eyes and take in the views!). The views from the train from La Spezia were great for very short stints of time. This train line runs through the Cinque Terre area of Italy, and near each of the train stops, the view outside the train was great!
However when the train wasn't by a stop, we were often traveling through a very dark and not scenic tunnel.
After arriving in Bonassola we all got settled into our new Airbnb and then went out to explore some of the new town. Luckily its a small town and about 30 minutes of exploring lets you see most of the central area of town as well as the gorgeous beach nearby our new Airbnb.
We all then went to get some food from the ONLY grocery store in town which is closed from 2PM - 5PM and closes at 7PM. So after seeing that the grocery store was quite small, we decided to make this run mostly for snacks and breakfast food and to instead go out for dinner.
After getting some delicious pizza for dinner we all went back to the apartment to have some wine and play five crowns. (Parent note: Nana Andi won the game handily with much help from Griffin - and Limoncello - since Griff kept inadvertently giving her wild cards. Gage won the prize for most total points ever earned in 5 Crowns!😊)
Tune in tomorrow for more!
