The Journey Through Portugal Comes to a Close (2/18/2024)

With the day to ourselves, Mom, Kayla, Connor, Griffin, and I, decided to walk the part of the “Fisherman’s Walk” we did on the first day, because when we did it the first time it was super rainy, so we wanted to see the views from the trail when it was clear skies and sunny. We also went down the stairs to the arches and sea caves one last time.

Upon returning to the apartment, we ate lunch, cleaned up the apartment, and got fully packed.

(Parent note: this picture included at my request. In Lagos, there is no trash or recycling collection. Instead, every few blocks you see these canisters, color coded and labeled for different types of recyclables or regular trash. They seem fairly small for many households' worth of trash, don't they? That's because what you see is just a chute to a much larger container below. The entire platform those canisters rest on can be elevated for the municipal trash trucks to empty out the subterranean trash and recycling chambers. Very cool!)

At around 4, we exited the apartment for the final time. Because we had all of our bags with us, we decided to Uber to the bus station, however, the first Uber we called couldn’t fit everyone, so we ended up calling another one and taking both Ubers to the bus station.

We arrived at the bus station well before the bus even started boarding, so we walked around looking for a bathroom until it was time to board, after we found the bathroom, however, we found this little market, and one of the stands was selling a funnel cake sort of thing with cinnamon sugar, which was quite delicious.

(Parent note: our general rule is that if something costs a Euro, it is probably worth trying. We amended that rule so that if something costs 1.50, and it is fried and covered in sugar from a street vendor, then probably also worth a try. And this surely was!)

We then got on the bus(which did have a bathroom), and set off toward Seville. (Parent note: the bus ride was about 4 1/2 hours. We had assigned seats, which were mostly not together, but it seemed nobody paid attention to their seat assignments except the dumb foreigners (us). The bus was smooth and comfortable, and much better once we figured out the Wi-Fi password. So a fine way to travel - and cheap, at 15 euros each. We moved to a new time zone, so it was about 10:30 pm when we started walking.)

After arriving in Seville, we walked 20 minutes to our Airbnb. The place has two bedrooms and a pullout couch, a small little kitchen area and two bathrooms. In one of the bedrooms there is a wardrobe that had a hat and a plushie inside of it, which griffin promptly claimed.

We then got settled in the Airbnb and called it a night.

(Parent note: Gage and the parents called it a night. Kayla, Connor and Griffin elected to soak in the nighttime vibe, so went out wandering around until at some point long after I was asleep!)
