Hello all,
Today we started off by arriving in Madrid Spain. Our flight landed around 9AM local time and we all got little to no sleep on the flight. Once we got inside the Madrid airport, we were on the move again to get to another terminal where we would be catching the last of our initial round of flights, and the one that would take us to our first destination, Porto (Portugal)!
While working our way through the airport and just before hitting another round of security, we ran into a well-known star for anyone who has watched ‘Ted Lasso’, Juno Temple. She plays a character named Keeley Jones in the show and we were all surprised that no one else in the airport knew who she was considering she acted and dressed just like her in-show character. Then we all realized that ‘Ted Lasso’ is a show designed for Americans and not necessarily for Spaniards who from the looks of things had no idea who she was. (Parent note: Griffin was the only one brave enough to talk to her and ask for a selfie. She was very gracious- and sounds in real life exactly as she does on the show!)
After making it onto our next flight, which ended up being the shortest at only 50 minutes spent in the air, we arrived in the Porto airport. And at this point the tiredness began to set in for everyone a little bit and by the time we made it to our Porto Airbnb, Matt, Griffin, and Gage were all ready for a nap.
Jen, Kayla, and Connor decided to seize the opportunity and check out some of the surrounding area, and we were left stunned with how unique, and historic all the buildings were. When we returned to the Airbnb, all three we had left were sound asleep. We decided to wake up Griffin and Gage so they could at least eat some dinner before clocking out for the day. Jen made us all some pasta with marinara sauce we picked up from a local market around the corner from our Airbnb. Kayla and Connor also got a $1.75 bottle of wine to try (The Airbnb came with a bottle opener, and we wanted to make sure it worked). Matt decided to spend the rest of his day recovering for tomorrow by sleeping, while Jen, and Connor worked on planning our remaining days in Porto.
Gage then decided to join Kayla, Jen, and Connor on one final excursion for the day and we went and explored the area around our Airbnb once again. This time we crossed the pedestrian bridge and explored the Monastery that overlooks all of historical downtown Porto. We then went and did some more shopping for some breakfast items in town.
On our way we stopped at a rather well decorated and fancy-looking McDonalds of all places. There were many chandeliers and almost an entire wall of stained glass artwork inside.
We all decided to call it a night around 7:30, some earlier than others, but we look forward to updating you all with more info and activities tomorrow.
- Connor
