The Roman Empire (3/12/24)

Today we are going to the Roman Forum. It is made of buildings and artifact that date back 2000+ years ago. We woke up and left the house at around 9am so we could get there early and that would allow us to explore everything. We split up in three groups, Connor and Kayla (since last time went so well...), MacClain and Griffin, and Mom, Dad, and Gage. Each group had headphones to listen to an informative podcast thingy that told you all about what you were seeing. It was very cool and as good as the pictures are, they don't do it justice.

After we finished up with the Forum, we left to get lunch but also stopped by some cool places on the way. Lunch was very delicious, and it put us in a great mood to walk around some more. After all, there is so much to see. We then walked up and into into the Altare della Patria which is a huge building with a lot of famous architecture. (Parent note: translated: "Altar of the Fatherland," a nickname for the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument, also simply called the "Vittoriano." The building is now a museum, but the best part is outside!). It even allowed you to take an elevator to the very tippity top of the building that provided the best view of the city you could possibly imagine. MacClain, Griff, and Connor all went up (Under 18 was free and Connor really wanted to do it). We then lost Kayla again but found her soon after and then had a talk as a family because we aren't great at communicating as a collective. (Parent note: we didn't really lose her this time; we were waiting on the plaza while the boys went to the roof; she didn't realize we were right behind her so she started walking towards the bathroom/exit, but Jen spotted her walking away and followed her and caught up with her at the long bathroom line. But we certainly do need to work better as communicating as a family!). After, Mom, Dad, and Gage all went home (Parent note: we walked via the Termini station to check out the shops and scout for our departure on Saturday) while Connor, Griff, MacClain, and Kayla continued to walk around the enormous city.

We then got home at around 11 and went to the store right around the corner from our place to find ourselves some dinner. We picked up our usual dinner which consisted of pizza, pasta, and wings. (Parent note: we previously had been trying to plan real dinners and be creative and eat as a family, but that went out the window in Rome. The stores nearby are very small and dinner-type items are basically pizza, pasta, and strange looking cuts of meat. Plus we've been eating lunch around 3, so people have varying levels of hunger at various times. So now we just send everyone to the store to pick out what they want for dinner, and it is a bit of a hodge-lodge.). We put on a movie picked out by MacClain, called 2012 and it was very good. We watched it whilst eating Gelato until everyone eventually went to bed because we have an early morning tomorrow.

Ohhh and by the way... KAYLA GOT THE TEACHING JOB AT EAGAN!!!! Be sure to text or call her (via Connors phone) and give her some congratulations.

See you all Tomorrow!

Griffin
