Woke up and left Palamos, Spain at 9:31 AM (Spain Time). We headed for this love park (forgot the name and I don't wanna remember it). (Parent note: it was the Labrynth Park of Horta, in the Horta neighbirhood of Barcelona.) Upon arriving at the park we choose a super tight parking spot (because someone decided to plant trees on the lines of the parking spots). We then headed out to the Maze love park at around 11:00 AM (Spain Time).
At the park, there was a giant maze supposed to represent the difficulties of love. (Parent note: it intended to represent that love initially is fun but then can be confusing and annoying and a huge pain. 😊). Connor, Gage, Griffin, and Kayla entered to Maze first and raced to the finish. Connor and Griffin ended up cheating (which Kayla made the executive decision and stated that they were disqualified) and taking gaps through the bushes SOOO the leaderboard is: 1St: Gage 2nd: Kayla 3rd: Matt and Jen.
After the Maze, we walked around the rest of the park and some some interesting fountains and sculptures (most represented painful relationship stories).
Then the pain continued when we reached the car. When we got back to the car, we noticed one of our windows smashed to pieces and a door completely open. Sadly, we had several things stolen included:
All of Matt and Jens Clothes
All 6 passports
Kayla's two credit cards and Debit card
Kayla and Connor lost their cash (about 80 Euros worth)
Kayla and Matt both lost their computers
Kayla lost her phone
Kayla and Matt lost their wireless headphones
And the list continues ...
(Parent note: Matt's full suitcase and day pack; Jen's full suitcase; Kayla's backpack, and the extra duffel we tend to cram a bunch of stuff in.). After this discovery, we headed straight for the police station (because the Police do not come to you here). (Parent note: after many parking lot phone calls and discussions with the onsite security team - who saw nothing and could do nothing- and the many construction workers and other passersby who also saw nothing, and talking to the police who do NOT come to the scene of the crime, so we all piled into the car, avoiding the shards of broken window. Fortunately with several of our bags gone, there was more room!). Thankfully, Griffin's years of Spanish came in handy. He did a lot of translating along with Matt and we were able to create a Police Report (which wont help us get anything back but oh well, gotta move on). (Parent note: Griffin was AMAZING!!!!!)
Once getting a Police Report, Matt and Connor left to drop off the car. Kayla, Gage, Griffin, and Jen were able to go to the store and get provisions (mostly wine) for the next couple of days while we are in Badalona, Spain.
Matt and Jen then went out to the Walmart of Spain and got some much needed clothes. We then had dinner and relaxed for the rest of the day.
Stay tuned for a (hopefully) much better day tomorrow.
(Parent note: obviously a tough day. But parts of it were excellent. And was a good learning experience. Fortunately nobody was hurt, we have money in the budget to help buy the replacements we need, and we still have a month left on this fabulous trip. We also had some great laughs in appreciating the things that weren't stolen. My travel mug - yay! The mini fork from Kayla's salad several weeks ago - what fun! The good chips and cookies from Aldi - whew! And we are off tomorrow morning to the consulate in Barcelona to hopefully get temporary replacement passports so we can continue on to Rome as planned on Sunday. So stay tuned!)
Signing off,
Kayla Daniel
PS: Pictures might be coming later because Kayla does not have any (cause if you heard earlier her phone got stolen)
(Ps parent note: the Bitch Mints were sadly stolen. But the @&$!!&8 who stole them certainly deserves them - this the subtitle to this post!)
awful. I am sorry
