Today was our first whole day in Santorini. Today was also The Greek Independence day where they celebrate their Greek Democracy. (Parent note: 50 years today!) However for us it was a relatively slow morning as we were all recovering from the very long travel day yesterday. The first to get up where Mom and the Nanas. They then went out to get some treats from the bakery and then mom showed the Nanas the gorgeous view from last night. When they got back, everyone else was starting to wake up. Griff then made Connor, Kayla, and himself some breakfast. Next to our house, there’s an elderly man with a donkey who rides it on the street right next to our house which reminded everyone of Mama Mia which we thought was very funny. A little after, Mom, Gage, and the Nanas set off to look at the parade for independence day.
watching the parade in the wind!
And then eventually Griff met up with them. Connor and Kayla eventually left the house to go on their own.
As we started walking around town, we got to see so many of the amazing things Santorini has to offer. The architecture, the views of other islands and the ocean, home renovations going on before all the tourists started arriving for spring. However the craziest thing we might've experienced was the Insane winds. We had to get low to the ground and hold on to anything we had in reach so we wouldn't get blown away.
We all met at the house around lunch time so we decided to go to a new gyro place near our air BnB. It was delicious and super cheep!!! We all then went back to the house. Not long after, Connor, Griff, and Kayla went back out to look around the town. Connor and Kayla decided to get a little gift for their friend Lizzy as she always gets them a gift when she travels places.
(Parent note: Gage and mom hikes over to the Lidl - sort of an Aldi equivalent - which is 1.7 miles from our Airbnb. The good news is that we found 2 other large-ish grocery stores on the way. The bad news is that despite the hours posted online, all three were closed for Greek Independence Day. But mom and Gage got to have quite an adventure on the walk with the crazy winds. At one point mom was literally whisked off her feet by the wind and Gage had to run and catch her before she blew away. Quite exciting!)
We all got back around dinner time so we decided to go to the same place we went for lunch. Normally we would be against it but it was super cheap and delicious we had to go there again. (Parent note: super-stuffed gyros for €3.80!!) After dinner Griff, Mom, Connor, Kayla, and the Nanas all went in the hot tub. We're only allowed three people in there so we had to take turns.
Thanks for tuning in!!
